Brushing your teeth twice a day (especially before bedtime and anytime), using fluoridated toothpaste, and having regular dental clinic visits will help keep your teeth healthy. Diet, smoking and alcohol also affect the health of your teeth.

Healthy diet is good for your teeth

What you eat and drink can contribute to tooth decay, so it’s important to eat a healthy diet for your teeth.

A balanced diet means lots of fruits and vegetables that contain starch, such as bread, rice, potatoes and pasta (eat more whole grain foods and peel potatoes whenever possible).

Along with this, you can also eat foods that contain high amounts of protein, such as meat, fish, eggs, beans and non-dairy protein products and some milk and milk products (which have low fat content

Consume small amounts of foods and beverages high in fat and sugar. The Eatwell Plate shows how to incorporate a variety of foods into your diet.

Reduce sugar intake to avoid tooth decay

The less you keep the amount of sugar in your food and drink, the more you will stay away from tooth decay.

Some foods and drinks that contain a lot of sugar are:

· Sweets, Chocolates, Cakes & Biscuits

· Sweetened drinks, including soft drinks, fizzy drinks, milky drinks, drinks with added sugar and alcohol

· Fruit juices, including fresh fruit juices without added sugar and smoothies

· Buns, Pastries, Fruit Pie

· Sponge and Pudding

· table sugar

· sweetened breakfast cereal

· Jam, marmalade, honey and syrup

· ice cream

· dried fruit or fruit compote in syrup

· Syrup and Sweet Sauce

· Here’s how sugar is bad for your teeth, plus how to stay away from it.

Have no more than one glass of fruit juice per day and no more than one smoothie a day

There are also some foods that already contain sugar that cannot be removed, such as fruit and milk.

When we crush or juice fruits, such as when making smoothies, the sugar in the fruit is released.

These sugars can be harmful to your teeth once ingested, so it’s best to drink fruit juice or smoothies with meals.

The amount of fruit juices, vegetable juices and smoothies you consume should not exceed 150 ml — which is equivalent to one small glass.

For example, if you take 150 ml of orange juice and 150 ml of smoothie, then you should take this quantity 150 ml more than the prescribed quantity.

How smoking can damage our teeth

Smoking can cause yellow stains on your teeth. Bad breath can occur, and there is an increased risk of gum disease, as well as more serious health problems.

Alcohol and oral health problems

Alcohol consumption can also damage the outer surface of your teeth, which in turn can damage the enamel. If this happens, you may need to go to the best dentist to get it fixed.

Drinking more alcohol increases the chances of getting oral cancer.

The highest risk of oral cancer occurs when you consume both alcohol and smoking.

It is estimated that people who drink heavily are 38 times more likely to develop oral cancer than those who do not have the habit of drinking and smoking.

Food and drink can damage your teeth

Things like alcohol, cigarette smoke, tea and coffee can damage your teeth. To protect the teeth from stains, it would be good to use these things at least.
Your dentist or hygienist can perform a professional cleaning of your teeth that will reduce stains.
